UR celebrates landmark year with Smoking Ban donation
Liverpool-based Urban Revolution Ltd, short listed for the upcoming Daily Post New Business of the Year Award, has marked a successful year by donating £2,000 to their partner charity The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.
With the Smoking Ban coming into effect throughout England on July 1st Urban Revolution has designed and manufactured a range of innovative exterior smoking bins, perfect for restaurants, bars, hotels and various other businesses that wish to keep their outside areas and entrances free of cigarette and chewing gum litter. The company donates £1 from every sale directly to the Liverpool-based Foundation, helping both our health and our environment.
Founder and Chief Executive of Urban Revolution Chris Bradshaw said: "The £2,000 will go directly to the laboratories, furthering the unique research into the early detection of lung cancer, an illness most commonly associated with smoking."
Paul Gauntlett, Director of Development at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation said:"We are delighted to be associated with Chris and his company's excellent products. The Foundation has campaigned for many years for the introduction of the new legislation and recognises that it will drive some smokers onto the streets. Ideally we would hope that they will take this opportunity to quit smoking, but we recognise that some will choose not to do so. The bins ensure that our environment is not littered with discarded cigarettes. Smoking accounts for around 90% of lung cancer diagnoses, and the generous donation will go towards our research into the disease.
The donation took place outside the Liverpool Ibis Hotel where several of the bins are located and helping to keep the entrances and outdoor areas butts and gum free!
In the UK alone, 120 tons of cigarette related litter is discarded on our streets every day, accounting for over 40 percent of all street litter. Chewing gum litter may be even more of a problem with an estimated 150 million pounds being spent annually by our local authorities on its removal.
